Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here?
I have heard of several of the bands playing, some pretty recently in just researching bands playing going global and others I have picked up on from following flying nun and some from just checking out blogs over the years.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
I’m looking to finally seeing Lawrence Arabia! I also want to check out Kane Strang and The Mermaidens
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
Do as much research ahead of time as possible and take notes so you remember which bands you like best! Also if you’re travelling far, give yourself a good day to get over jetlag

Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here?
I have actually, from either playing Laneway Festival in Auckland previously or just keeping an eye on the blogs: Lawrence Arabia, Tiny Ruins, Bespin, Kane Strang.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
All the above mentioned but also Mermaidens sound great so looking forward to them, SoccerPractise, Merk, Hex. Just really excited about going deep into the showcases and discovering some new and fresh artists to rave about back in Aus
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
Don't try to see everything as you'll miss out on some good hangs with new people you've met. It's easy to get caught up in rushing from venue to venue.
Also, there'll always be that moment when your legs are giving out and the hangover is creeping in while you're still awake, but try to push through for another hour. It's amazing how many great things I've discovered by pushing through the pain barrier and staying out that extra hour and catching a key act at the end of the night

Yes! I work with The Courtneys! Also heard of Lawrence Arabia.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
Kane Strang, Tiny Ruins, Lawrence Arabia, The Courtneys, more!
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
I’m a first time attendee as well, but I’d say in general it’s best to treat it like a marathon. Pace yourself or you’ll get burnt out and everything will start sounding the same.

Wondergarden/ Banished From The Universe

Favourite track by an act playing The Others Way?
At the moment, it's 'It' by Wax Chattels. Such an incredible band. And lovely people too.
Are there any particular bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
Bic Runga, so excited for that one. As well as Mermaidens, Avoid Avoid and Wax Chattels. Three of my current faves. And also pretty pumped to see Dictaphone Blues, Arthur Ahbez and Dual, repping for Team Banished.
Any bands you’ve never seen before you want to check out?
The Courtneys and Merk!

BIGSOUND

Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here?
There are a bunch I haven't heard of and this festival is one of my favourites to discover new acts in a live setting. But I do have some absolute favourites who I absolutely can't wait to see.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
I can't wait to see Tiny Ruins, Kane Strang, and also a couple who are playing BIGSOUND the next week; Bespin and Merk.
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
The world is your oyster when it comes to this kind of event. It's good to prepare what you want to see, but also be flexible on the night and throw all plans to the wind if you stumble across a cool new act or make fun new friends.

Very curious about The Courtney's and also Jonathan Bree's debut performance!

APRA / AMCOS NZ

Favourite track by an act playing The Others Way?
I think She’ll Be Coming Round by Tiny Ruins might be one of my favourite songs ever: “That old free will might be a myth, but I’m gonna try and get me some”. Also, very much enjoying The Queen’s Speech by Queen Neptune.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
Loads!! Apart from the two mentioned above… I’ve heard some really interesting rumours about Jonathan Bree’s first ever solo performance, which sounds very theatrical; I’ve been hanging out to see a full set from Soccerpractise; Audrey’s Dance will be awesome to dance to; and you can’t go past a great hootin’, hollerin’, stompin’ set from Hopetoun Brown.
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
Be an explorer! Don’t be too hard-core in trying to plan out your evening – pick a few must-sees, but be open to the idea that while you’re roaming around you might stumble upon some music you love, even if you know nothing about them.

Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here?
There are a few bands I'm familiar with and, fortunately, lots that I can look forward to discovering. Have always had a soft spot for Arthur Ahbez.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
I'd like to see Merk, Yoko Zuna, and Tiny Ruins. I have no idea what Audrey's Dance sound like, but they look intriguing to me. I'm wondering what Bic Runga sounds like live, and I enjoyed Jonathan Bree's latest single.

Drink water in between all that alcohol, and look after your ears. I sound like someone's parents.

A Low Hum

Favourite track by an act playing The Others Way?
Grayson Gilmour's entire new album, crap it's good. I have no idea what the track titles are, and I probably wouldn't cut it down if I said "the real earnest sounding, densely textured and sonically blissful one". I just put the record on, turn it over and repeat. His live band is nothing to scoff at either, I haven't seen this current line-up live, but you don't get much better, dare I say it, "muso's"? (kill me now).
Are there any particular bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
Well, obviously Disasteradio, nobody brings the party like him, and I don't care if I'm being a nepotistic douche. So many great acts, I'll probably end up getting some closure seeing heaps of the great acts who played my last NYE party whom I didn't get to see as I was running around freaking out; Hex, Mermaidens, k2k, Kane Strang... tip of the iceberg really, so much goodness.
Any bands you’ve never seen before you want to check out?
Bic Runga, no doubt. Though I once caught Opossum who were awesome, I, for some silly reason have never seen a Bic Runga show. I always dreamed of having Bic play a set on the "nice stage" at my fest, i'll have to take that to the grave, but at least I will finally see a set.
Lol, what a nightmare programming this beast must be, so many great bands, so little time.  Ten years ago I would have worn running shoes, track pants, had a stop-watch around my neck and seen every act - now I'll probably just end up talking crap about APRA while eating a kebab on K-road for most of the night.

Mark Kneebone

Laneway Festival, Live Nation (NZ)

What Song by The Others Way artist do you recommend?
I recommend the entire Micronism album "Inside a Quiet Mind". I worked at the label that first put this record out (Kog) and I have fond memories of sitting in the mastering suite and playing this record at full volume. It is a beautiful piece of music and I am excited it has been given a second run.
Are there any bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
I am really keen to see Bespin (always loud and amazing), Soccer Practise (somehow haven't seen this band play live yet) and All Seeing Hand (Wellingtons finest)
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
A plan helps but take a chance and just walk into a couple of venues at random and try your luck - there is so much talent it is impossible to not enjoy yourself.

Favourite track by an act playing The Others Way?
‘Geronimo II’ by The All Seeing Hand - this was the first track I’d ever heard of the All Seeing Hand, and it blew my hair back, they played it at Going Global in Mighty Mighty with all these candles spread around the venue - such a lot of fun!
Are there any particular bands you’re looking forward to seeing?
Arthur Ahbez - love his Gold album and keen to hear new stuff…and Bic Runga - I used to tune her guitars, mate!
Any bands you’ve never seen before you want to check out?
Dual - I really like their sound! They made the shortlist for Going Global this year…will be interesting to see the reaction!

Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
Not to plan too much, go with the flow. That's how I do things like SXSW and all the rest.
