WHO WANTS TO SEE WHAT AT THE OTHERS WAY 2016?

WHO WANTS TO SEE WHAT AT THE OTHERS WAY 2016?

We asked some notable international and local record labels, booking agents, media and music fans attending The Others Way who are they are looking forward to seeing the most.

Some of the overseas guests are in Auckland to attend the Going Global Music Summit. For Going Global tickets and a full list of guests check their website. We highly recommend it for anyone with an aspiring or already active international music career.  No doubt we will see some international guests out at The Others Way checking out some of the local talent. Remember to be friendly, maybe buy them a beer!

Here's who some The Others Way attendees want to see:

JOE ALEXANDER - BEDROOM SUCK RECORDS/SCOTT & CHARLENE'S WEDDING- MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here? Are there any bands you’re looking forward to?
Yes! Absolutely. Probably goes without saying, but I'm a fan of David Kilgour and had actually been spinning the Heavy Eights record at least once a day before I found out he was even playing this! It was a very pleasant surprise when I finally got to read the full lineup announcement.
I've also been listening a bit lately to Kane Strang and Fazerdaze, who are coming over here for Bigsound. I'm sure there are a million more bands from the lineup I should also be listening to.
And of course, not to play favourites to the Aussies but it would be worth mentioning Twerps, who I definitely recommend catching! They have a great energy onstage and really manage to do justice to their records, which is no mean feat.
Favourite track from a The Others Way band that everyone should listen to?
I think it has to go to David Kilgour and the Heavy Eights with their track 'Comin' On', but Fazerdaze are pulling a close second, watch out NZ royalty!
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
4. This will be my first time not only at the Others Way but also in Auckland, so I'm not sure if I am much use here! I'll be studying the program beforehand and planning my night for sure.

MAGGIE COLLINS - CO-PROGRAMMER OF BIG SOUND, DZ DEATHRAYS MANAGER & TRIPLE J UNEARTHED PRESENTER - BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

Had you even heard of any of these bands playing The Others Way before coming here?
I know a handful of them, but of those that I don't know, I'm excited to be discovering them in a live setting. It's exciting when that process happens away from my bloody laptop.
Aside from any you already work with, are there any bands you’re looking forward to?
Absolutely! I've been listening to Fazerdaze a lot this year after I met her at Flying Out records earlier this year and she gave me her album. What a sweetheart! I'm really excited that she's coming to BIGSOUND too. Also I've been listening to Cut Off Your Hands since they were Shaky Hands. They remind me of early community radio days (4ZZZ in Brisbane) which is awesome. Will be great to see them live. I'm also a huge fan of Yumi Zouma and had a great catch up with Josh from the band while in New York a couple of months ago who told me a bit about what to expect from them live. Can't wait!
Any handy tips for first time attendees to get the most out of multi-band multi-venue type events?
It's all about preparation. But that can be the fun part! Because it's all about listening and doing research on the artists. That and always wear comfy shoes. Makes for a better live-music-viewing experience!
